1 day at ITC Grand Chola

1 day at ITC Grand Chola

Why would somebody holiday in the same city? I mean, does that even make sense? I am not talking about holidaying about an hour's drive from the city, but about holidaying in a hotel, like 20 minutes from home! Anyway, we had to celebrate an occasion and we had decided to do something nice, but then I had to leave to MIT, Boston the very next day, so we decided to not entirely chuck our plans and holiday in the city. Essentially, a hotel stay. If you are mad like us and decide to do something crazy like that, then options are not many. Or there are too many, depending on how you look at it. For us, there was only place to do something as crazy as that. The ITC Grand Chola. I mean, if you take one look at it, you will want to stay there. I didn't win a voucher, I didn't win a twitter contest, I didn't get invited. We just went to stay! And how often do you come across a hotel that is built to resemble a palace!?! Complete with a grand staircase!! I wa

To a Coorgi home and back via Taj Clubhouse!

To a Coorgi home and back via Taj Clubhouse!

Home cooked food is the best! But whose home? Gary of the Masterchef Australia's fame, I think put it aptly. "Food is never as good as your mom's. Or mine." "What is 'authentic? I'm a Coorgi, married to a Coorgi, and both homes have completely different styles of food," was how the conversation started, a few minutes before we walked into Clubhouse, the all day dining at Taj Clubhouse! Do both homes have 'akki otti?" Yes. Good enough! So, Taj Clubhouse decided to partner with a Coorgi Chennaite to bring in flavours from the Coorg region. I thought the move was excellent. No matter how much you stick to your roots, there is room for 'experimentation' with flavours in a 5 star environment and partnering with a localite might help mitigate that! Yesterday, it seemed to have worked! I could have been eating all this at a home in Coorg and wouldn't have known that it was made in a 5 star hotel.  I learn

Krispy Kreme comes to Chennai!

Krispy Kreme comes to Chennai!

I was mighty excited when I heard that Krispy Kreme was coming to Chennai. Having an outlet near my Bangalore office helps me get a dose of donuts when I am there, so wishing it came to Chennai was a monthly affair for me. I have never sat down to eat donuts, though. Always picked them up on the go and munched them through. I introduced my friend to KK when we went for a movie and he was hooked for life, or so he said. When KK was giving away free donuts before the launch, I wanted to get my hands on them. Not because they were free, but because I love them so much and didn't want to wait for a trip to Bangalore to get my hands on them. When they finally opened up, I was ready. Ready to stuff my face with donuts. Ready to write a glowing post on this blog. My head already knew what I wanted to write. Words were flowing. Decided to take the family, but only two of us ended up going. I left my friends behind. Foody friends were ditching each other to get their hands on

A 5 course Chocolate Meal @ Park Hyatt

A 5 course Chocolate Meal @ Park Hyatt

I love the tagline, Luxury is Personal!!!! It summarises the definition of luxury in a single line! What is luxury to me maybe a passé to you and vice versa! Of course there will be many for whom luxury is similar! Yesterday, it was the love of chocolates! The story is amazing - Our hot shot friend makes to a trip to Belgium and brings back premium Marcolini chocolates, gives it to the executive chef at Park Hyatt and he whips up a meal entirely of chocolates. And invites us to join the party!!! Chennai is growing as a food destination and experiments like this will go a long way in our evolving city. Perfuming pairing at Taj, Masters of Food and Wine by Park Hyatt were all glowing examples of how hotels in Chennai were moving away from their comfort zone to experiment with food. While the demand for such is still small, so what? There is a demand, however small and the foodie in me is ecstatic that I don't have to go abroad to experience these once in a
