ITALIA - The Park Pod

ITALIA - The Park Pod

The Park Pod - a boutique hotel on KNK Road is a place that you go to celebrate special occasions - or at least that is how it was a couple of years back with a meal for two (without alcohol) easily crossing 3 grand or so. When a friend said that the prices have dropped and that they have good pizza for the price of one similar to Pizza Hut, I was naturally intrigued and to prove his point he took me there when he had a reason to celebrate and I was shocked to see that he was indeed right! But I had to leave early that night and so when the wife and me had a special occasion we went here for a dinner rendezvous! The exteriors are exquisite and when to climb the stairs to the restaurant, you can see oommphh all around. It was a Monday night and there was only one other couple and so the we almost had the place to ourselves. The ambiance is amazing with one side of the restaurant having a full view of the pool (not a swimming pool though)! Nice classy place this is. The wife order

Texas Fiesta

Texas Fiesta

Well made Mexican dish is a delight to any palate, the key being 'Well made'. The Texas version of Mexican popularly called the Tex Mex is pretty good too and its sad that in Chennai, there are not too many places offering good Mexican food! Texas Fiesta joined the small group attempting to serve Mexican and my first few visits there left me thinking 'Good food, but is this Tex Mex/Mexican?' So when I was invited to review the place and meet its owners last week, I jumped at the offer! The owner has spent a few years in the US and has a passion for food - so much passion that he actually went through training in Mexican cuisine! His knowledge of the Mexcian food is amazing and I was glad I went as I learnt a lot about Mexican cuisine. In my previous visits to Texas Fiesta, there were a few glaring mistakes on Mexican food, such as chopped onions being served as Salsa and curd being served as Sour cream and fajitas served without tortilla. All of those have been correc

Mash Grill

Mash Grill

When a friend of mine from the Chennai Food Guide called me for first taste review of this upcoming restaurant, I casually asked him if the restaurant was in the Wallace Garden vicinity and 'Yes' came the answer! The hub around KNK Road in Nungambakkam can stake claim to be the Food Capital of Chennai!! What else can explain restaurants queuing up to set shop in this place (with reports that space owners don't want a rent but a share in revenue!!!)? So I parked my car on the road and walked up to the restaurant and was taken aback by the look - Great first impression for a restaurant that is not yet open! The exteriors were nice and chic and screams 'expensive'. The owner took us around the place, and I could not help but notice that the interiors were not as good as the exterior, but were decent and upmarket. Being a house that is being turned around into a food joint, you have a lot of small pockets of space and not one big chunk. The ground floor had about t

Blur Cafe

Blur Cafe

I love burgers - a fact that I am not ashamed to flout - and a proper one at that, not a burger with a piece of chicken inside it, but one with the perfect patty. Last week, I had an urge for a good burger and I could not find one around T. Nagar (where I work), so my friend and I decided to see what  Chicking had to offer as it was the closest to us and it has been almost four years since I went there, so.......well, I did not even write about it and I realized that I should have not gone there in the first place - bad bread, bad everything.......Back to the point, the burger craze was getting worse after a bad burger! I pulled another friend of mine and dragged him to join me for a burger at the Blur Cafe, Satyam Complex - he decided to have a hot dog instead, while I ordered their beef burger and slurp, slurp, slurp, I loved it! The hot dog was pretty nice, but yes, there was something other than the burger that took the cake (and the baker's wife along with it) - the chocolate

10D's lunch!

10D's lunch!

I've heard about the lunch combo at 10D for quite sometime, so yesterday four of us (one person who came only to watch as he had his lunch already) landed there to get a taste of what was cooking! The ambiance was great as is usual to 10D and we settled on comfortable sofas well inside the  restobar! I was aware of the price before we went here, Rs 150 for veg and Rs 200 for non veg - which includes a soup/beer/soft drink, a main course and dessert of the day, but I was not aware of the humongous choice on offer! I cannot even list the number of choices for the main course, with a choice of Indian, Chinese and Continental and each of them having at least ten or twelve choices within them. Soup of the day also had choices between cream of tomato and cream of mushroom and both were decent! The friend ordered a Chinese fried rice combo, which itself had rice and gravy to it, his wife ordered a spicy Indian veg rice combo which also had rice and gravy to it, while yours truly, sett

Aroma

Aroma

Ok, on a cash crunchy day, when two ATMs refused to spit out money for some strange reason we landed ourselves at this dingy outlet, a couple of hundred meters from the Kodambakkam bridge and decided to see what the aroma was at this place. We sat on the dingy bench and saw the 'menu' and ordered ourselves 1 plate of parathas, two romali rotis, a fried rice, a portion of paneer butter masala and a portion of dhal fry masala. Well, the two gravys were priced at Rs 20 each (yes, you read right) and the breads Rs 10 per plate and guess what, I don't know if it was price that made us feel that way, but the food was very very decent. Certainly better in a lot of ways compared to 50 bucks, a proper budget restaurant on RK salai. The food is prepared right in front of your eyes and so there is no problem with it being fresh! The portions are decent, made for one person, so you will be fine with one rice and one gravy dish!! Obviously you do not expect any service here, so I am
