\\ I wasn't too excited about mBessy. 'What is new about another resto-bar in a small hotel?,' I thought. Its the fashion these days! Tie up with a hotel that has the required 21 rooms and start off a watering hole! Hmm! Friends insisted on going when they launched and me, though dead tired that day, tagged along! The entry was typical. And the familiarity ended there! This was a real fine dine setting hiding behind that typical-bar-door. We were whisked away to the first floor though and apparently that's where the action is. The setting is beautiful and eclectic. Completely different from the classy looking ground floor, this was a beautiful resto-bar! While I was still recovering from the beautiful setting that I least expected, we were seated in a nice eight seater with a low table. We can go down for the main courses after we are done with drinks and starters, said Mugesh, their manager. I have known him from his days a

Eggs Benedict, Fusion and Breakfast at Park Hyatt

Eggs Benedict, Fusion and Breakfast at Park Hyatt

Fusion foods are quite tricky, aren't they? They can go right or wrong and more often than not, they do go wrong. Especially when you try to combine an American breakfast dish with a South Indian favourite! Chef Balaji, though, has pulled it off!!! A twist to the Egg Benedict with fried idly with gun powder, masala and the hollandaise sauce on top of a runny egg! It was South Indian on a plate and could have passed off as a pure South Indian dish! So, four of us set off for breakfast!! I am sucker for it and a sucker for sleeping late on Sunday, so I was torn between two loves! Every Sunday I surface well past evening, so why not give breakfast a chance on Sunday too! Being someone who advocates breakfast for healthy living, Sunday need not take a break. Boy, was I glad!  They have an Eggs Benedict festival going on and you can choose among five types of Egg Benedict twists! And these are part of the breakfast with no extra charge, so thats awe

Buttermilk Potato Muffin Omelettes

Buttermilk Potato Muffin Omelettes

Its been a really really long time since I posted a recipe. In fact, quite a long time since I did some serious cooking. 1.5 years to be precise. So I decided to start off with something really light to get things going. And for me, eggs are the easiest to get the rusted cooking hands and head moving, so picked off some ideas from tip hero and modified them to my liking. Eggs and milk have been staples for ages and we have all used them in omelette and cakes and what not. While I love my omelettes with egg and a dash of milk, I wanted to see how they taste with buttermilk. So here goes: 3 eggs 1 cup buttermilk 2 potatoes cut like hash browns 1/5 amount of shredded cheese (1/5 quantity of the potatoes) 2-3 pieces of bell peppers Some green peas Salt and pepper First shred the potatoes. I used the cheese grater and got them ready cut like hash browns. Wash them nicely in water. These seemingly useless steps are very important to get them to cook well, so

Upper Deck at Vivanta by Taj, Fisherman's Cove relaunches

Upper Deck at Vivanta by Taj, Fisherman's Cove relaunches

Speechless. My camera bag dropped on the floor. It took me a while to understand what was going on. When a restaurant where you have some special memories has a makeover, it tends to surprise you and make it difficult to reconnect with the same place. For the first time, I wished this make over happened when special memories were being etched. From being a nice rustic restaurant at the secluded end of the beautiful Fisherman's Cove, this has evolved, no, turned overnight, into a chic, pretty bistro by the sea. With rocks right in front of you and the sound of music (the natural splashes of the waves, I mean) and the beautiful decor staring at you, this is some transformation. When Taj called us over to try out the new menu at the revamped Upper Deck, this is not what I was expecting. No food photographer can do real justice to the ambiance, I guess. So I just took one shot and moved on to the food! We started off with a nice French Onion soup, but with

Mamagoto comes to Chennai

Mamagoto comes to Chennai

The first time I heard the song, 'Hotel California,' I fell in love with it. For a long time, it was one of my favourite songs and still is, but it was after a long time that I realised the version I was hearing was from the 'Hell Freezes Over' concert and not the original. Immaterial of how many times I try to tell my brain that, the HFO version is the one that is 'original', to me. So I find it a little more difficult to enjoy creative versions of the song in other concerts because of the way my brain is wired.  Welcome to Mamagoto! While looking around for a quick place for lunch in Bangalore, we stumbled upto Mamagoto. They had this 'Experimental Menu' that we ordered most of our dishes from. Loved them all. The Wasabi Hummus was a stunner and with the crispy Pita bread, it was a winner. The Goat Cheese Ravioli was another stunner and the Vietnam inspired rice bowl was gobbled down in no time. So when Mamagoto launched in C
