Coco Jaunt

Coco Jaunt

Discovering a new short cut (after 4 years of it being there) has its own advantages. Anna Nagar 3rd Main Road is much closer!!! And that opens up a new range of restaurants for me when I am lazy to drive to the city!!! Suddenly that night we thought we had a battalion of options!!! After wasting the driving time we saved on deciding where to eat, we just decided it was Coco Jaunt!!!! Small, neat and with a bakery attached, Coco Jaunt is a simple eatery with a nice menu!!! With my camera not in hand, I so wish I could go back to get a few shots at the food!! The best of which was the Bunny Chow! A South African favourite, its a nice big bowl of bread with gravy, Butter Chicken Masala in our case!!! The gravy tasted nothing like a butter chicken masala, but it tasted great with the bread, so we really did not care about the name!!! We started off with fries! Why? Because reading it off the menu, I thought it was going to be a nice cheesy liquid on top of the fries. Not! I

Awadhi Food Festival, Vivanta by Taj Connemara

Awadhi Food Festival, Vivanta by Taj Connemara

Supposed to be a food lover's paradise, Lucknow has been on my wish list. Not because anything else, but just the Awadhi Biriyani and the Gulouti Kebab. Taj invited us over and here goes.... Now that a Awadhi chef landed here from Lucknow, I was dying to try the galouti kebab. Starter: Nice. Check Main Course. Nice. Check. No galouti in main course. Grrr...... Dessert: Nice. Check. If I am going to spend anytime on writing about it, it will be about the fantastic Awadhi Biriyani. Loved it. Okay. review over. Okay, particularly, the fish kebab was very good and in the main course, the dhal was stunning. Surprisingly for me, the vegetarian dishes were quite excellent, coming from a cuisine that is predominantly, meat based. Okay. Review over. But having a Lucknow Chef in Chennai and not eating Galouti was nagging me. It was like we missed gold. So, three foodies, decided to go back by ourselves on Monday and eat the Galouti Kebab. We hatched a plan and landed

Plan B

Plan B

A stand up comedian, from Bangalore, a year or so back, cracked a "jokes", "You take a guy from Bangalore and put him in one of your five pubs in Chennai....................." He wasn't very funny even otherwise. Chennai has come a long way since then and pubs are mushrooming all over. However only a few of them stand out though. Maybe the comedian was right. And Plan B will probably be one of them. Sometime back, my friend asked me if I had the steak at Plan B. I was like, what? Where is that? "You're a foodie? Really?" she snorted. And ever since then I've been wanting to try out Plan B, but never got the chance to, until last Friday. The place was packed to the brim so the three of us got seated right at the very end, next to the bar. And the fun began. It all started off with the two mocktails and a whisky marmalade which my friend was praising all through the week. Apparently it was fantastic. I wouldn't know. My m

Carribean Festival at Absolute BBQ

Carribean Festival at Absolute BBQ

For a price point of about 650 bucks, the standards that ABs sets is unbelievable. From being the best chicken wings in my opinion to doling out fabulous starters and desserts, ABs has got it right. But when there is a festival menu doing the rounds there for which CFG organises a bloggers table, it is hard to resist. Meeting up with old blogger friends was rather fun and was enough to make the evening fun, but the dinner here was a story to unfold. Service being the usual super friendly super efficient, they went out of the way to tell us that each dish was made just for the festival. Their usual fantastic prawns were the same, just spicier. The fish was similar, the other starters on the grill were all similar, but spicier. I was starting to wonder if the festival was just an increase in the spice levels. My favourite chicken wings was missing and I wasn't smiling. For almost 20 odd minutes, we were eating spicier version of their usually fantastic starte
