Lanna Food Festival @ Benjarong

Lanna Food Festival @ Benjarong

You know? India is not the only country which has North, South, East, West, Centre etc! I sort of knew, but didn't think it affected food as much as it did in India. I mean, how different is North French Cuisine from South French cuisine? I don't really know. I know that North Indian and South Indian cuisines are almost two different continents. An evening with Chef Ram at the Benjarong and I was given (another) culinary tour of North Thailand! And that is a cuisine that doesn't have my favourite Thai Red curry. No Thai Green Curry or Yellow Curry either! As I found out later, absolutely no coconut paste! Very few stand alone restaurants have a super consistently good food and Benjarong, as you might agree, is one among them. However, the food festivals that happen at Benjarong take it a notch up and yesterday, I realised why! The chef takes almost a year to prepare for it and in the process he laps up a huge chunk of knowledge about the culture too

Jonah's

Jonah's

Bistro. Patisserie. I love those two words under the name of any restaurant! Jonah's has been around for a few months and the only reason it took me so long to get there was the distance! Besant Nagar! Finally found a fellow foodie to drive! He he! Yay! The setting is very very nice. A combination of high chairs, private dining space and regular seating, the display of the patisserie is very inviting. My eyes fell on the escargot  and I told the waiter that I would like to have it for dessert! Yep, ordered dessert well before we got seated! The menu was a typical continental menu but with a few new names. Bashed Potato! The description said something like 'Creamy mashed potatoes in a crispy baked potato skin.'  Our mouths started to water. We also placed order for another unique dish, some chicken wrapped in turkey bacon! We ordered a burger, (yeah, I know), a grilled chicken with a side and waited! The first starter was a disappointment. Well, not ta

Go Go Ramen

Go Go Ramen

Let me be honest. I forgot about this blog. Wait. Wishing you a very happy new year. So, yeah, I have been running around to get the final stuff done for my book that is expected to be out in a couple of weeks. Yes, my book. No, not self published. So, yeah. But also, I wanted to start off writing this blog this year with a place that I loved. Not liked, not OK, not anything, but a place that I loved. So I waited. And then forgot! Sorry for the delay in updating. I know its been about 2 weeks! During the fag end of 2014, I had a craving for noodles. Now, that doesn't happen always. I crave for burgers, fries, waffles maybe, but noodles? Not so often! What do you do when you crave for noodles? I mean, a Chinese place maybe!?! But nope, not that kind. I wanted full bodied noodles with the works. We were driving past Go Go Ramen and the bulb went up in my brain! Bingo. What better place than a place dedicated to noodles? OK, I know Ramen is more than noodles, but my fir
