Tuscana - Chamier's Road

Tuscana - Chamier's Road

Undoubtedly my favorite Italian outlet in town, Tuscana has opened its newest at Chamiers Road, opp The Park Sheraton. So when Vipin, the owner, called me to take a look at it and sample some their food, I jumped at the chance. I am pretty regular to Tuscana at Wallace Garden and when he said that this setting was different, I was really curious. In complete contrast to its outlet in Wallace Garden, with its informal setting (and rather tables too close for comfort), which the owner calls a Pizzeria, its Chamiers road outlet is entirely a restaurant. With outstanding exterior, chic interior, with quite a few private dining rooms ranging from two seater to ten seater, the place is outstanding. The food is the same. Same outstanding quality, same quantity, but 13% higher in price. I have always felt that when you walk into an outlet of your favorite place, you should expect everything to be the same, but let's see how Tuscana fares with its brand with completely different set

Dewberry's

Dewberry's

Tucked away in a quiet street off RK Salai, Dewberry's is a nicely set up niche place belonging to a new breed of home owner turning their houses to restaurants! My first visit here, about six months back was very mixed as far as the food was concerned, but when a nice lunch combo was advertised, I took the opportunity when I had to meet a friend for lunch. The deal is simple - a drink, starter, main course and dessert for Rs 225 (Rs 200 for veg) and you have about four options to choose from for each of the above, so it really gives you options if you are a group of four as you can all have different foods to taste. I opted for the lime mint cooler, a rather funnily named starter, a chicken pasta and a pancake for dessert. My friend did not want a full meal and so he just got himself a bbq chicken burger. The drink was a kicker - a very well made lime mint cooler. The starter was very different to say the least, I cannot dismiss it as bad, as it was very different. It had a t

Copper Chimney

Copper Chimney

An old favorite for a few of us, I don't know why we have not thought of going here for such a long time - 5 years long! Last Saturday, when we got done with a meeting (yeah, some poor souls work Saturdays too), we headed here for lunch after one suggested that we MUST go to Copper Chimney, and that is how the rendezvous happened! We settled down and started off with a Chicken Kebab and a Paneer Tikka Kebab, the Chicken Kebab being a little too bland for me, I had to smear it with the mint chutney to get some flavor, while the paneer kebab was just right! We then ordered some Butter Naan, Butter Chicken Masala and Fish Creamy Masala for the main course. Each of them were distinct from the other in flavor and the naans were just brilliant. The Butter Chicken Masala here is (actually was and became is) a personal favorite, they have the right flavor without over doing any of them. I am not a big fan of fish, but this creamy gravy was quite good and there was no fish smell in t

Donut House

Donut House

After Atomic Donuts, a little kiosk in City Center, Chennai can now boast of its own donut center in the name of Donut House! Being invited for its opening, (as per Indian Stretchable Time), I was rather excited to sample some of their stuff and I was surprised to see a 'Live Kitchen' for a donut stall - impressive. After the formalities and ribbon cutting, we actually got to taste a few of their donuts and the first impression was good. Between the two of us, we had about five donuts, the first of which still lingers in my mouth - The Oreo Donut, a superb mix. The strawberry donut was tasty, but apart from being pink, it had nothing else to do with strawberry, it tasted of white chocolate. But the strawberry excess, which had stuffing inside the donut was super and was really a strawberry donut! The rainbow was a nice white chocolate donut, while the chocolate donut was well.........chocolate donut! The donuts themselves were nice for the most part. Four of them were w

Ecstacy, Mickael Besse

Ecstacy, Mickael Besse

Certainly the best dessert spot in town and it has been that way for quite some time now. I don't see any signs of decline, in fact they are reinventing everyday and the quality and taste has been outstanding. On a day when BLUR was stuffed to the maximum, my friend and I took the dessert route for solace and got ourselves a black forest sandwich and a hazelnut mousse. Brilliant would be an understatement and I have no words to describe them. The black forest sandwich was superb, with the right moisture, right blend and right everything. I love hazelnut, and to have a full mousse with hazelnut in all its glory was bliss! Both were served with a scoop of a superb ice cream. The best in town comes at a price, but a price that will be well worth it. Both were priced at about Rs 95 each. The ambiance and service are top class and with B&O music system inside, it is, well.........go find out! Food 9/10 Service 9/10 Ambiance 9/10 Price 9/10 Ecstacy is located on the ground f
