Atomic Donuts

Atomic Donuts

As we were walking at the lobby of Chennai Citi Center (yeah, I go there even after the EA onslaught), the wife pointed out to a quirky little machine which was spitting out mini donuts, looked like a vada machine which was put to an innovative use. We walked close to the stall and he did the ultimate marketing trick - gave us a free sample and what I ate blew my mind - maybe it was super fresh and straight out of the oven, but the donut was tiny but yyyyyuuuummmmyyy. You get to choose from regular which is priced at Rs 50 for 4, premium which is Rs 30 per piece and Rs 100 for five. Certainly expensive when you can get a good chocolate donut ( a big one that too) for about Rs 20 at French Loaf, but the premium flavors here were too good with rich chocolate, one with white chocolate, one studded with nuts, one with crunchy chocolate and the likes. I thoroughly enjoyed the donuts and yeah, I am heading there right now to get a couple of them! Hope they maintain the quality and also

F9

F9, a resto bar at Quality Inn Aruna opened its doors to the Chennai crowd after (apparently) wowing its clients in Hyderabad. I have been wanting to try this place as the concept looked interesting with their ads showing a world map on the table with diners all around and the place screams 'Global Cuisine' 4 of us gathered here on a Sat evening with two more joining us for dessert and we settled in to a nice place close to the open kitchen. The ambiance is nice and elegant and the open kitchen certainly adds to the decor, which seemed simple but well done. We started off with Goluti Kebab, which had about 8 succulent kebabs, done to perfection but served with 4 tiny pieces of paratha, hardly enough for 2 pieces of the kebab. Goluti tastes best with the roti, but they seem to think otherwise - but the kebab itself was brilliant and made up for the lack of roti and since there were eight pieces, we din't ask for roti! For the main course, the waiter suggested an Ara

Zaras Tapas Bar

Zaras Tapas Bar

Zaras is one pub/restobar that can compete with any full service restaurant for quality, quantity and taste of food and win hands down. Its been a while since I have had food here and last Sunday a couple of friends decided to meet here for a nice Sunday night dinner with drinks for the 'Drinkers' (pun intended) The waiters here laugh to themselves when they see a 'teetotaler' among a group of 'men' and this particular guy who waited on us made it very dramatic, but I guess that is part of the fun and as long as no one is hurt, I guess that fine too! The 'men' ordered their round of drinks (for the heck of it - all of us were here for the food) and let me not elaborate on the 'bandha' factor! We ordered half a dozen starters - the best among them being the honey garlic prawns and the grilled chicken pinchos - out standing stuff. Almost everything here is good, but the pinchos were excellent today. The spanish omelette was another star am

Mainland China

Mainland China

Its been a while since I visited this place and for a small get together of about 8 people, the friend decided to meet here (at the Alwarpet branch) and that's how I discovered that MC has not been able to keep up the standard! I was late by about forty five minutes and by this time the gang had polished off a few starters, so we ordered starters again and I tasted the corn fry in basket, the chicken dimsum and some chilly chicken - the basket in which the corn was served was very tasty and the corn itself was not bad, the chicken dimsum was very ordinary and the chilly chicken was average at best! We then had some chicken fried rice and a beef gravy which was again pretty average. We ordered a sizzling brownie as it is a tried and tested dish, a darsan with ice cream and a portion of fried ice cream. The brownie was very average and certainly not fresh, the darsan was actually very tasty with the ice cream and is definitely recommended, while the fried ice cream had 3 piec
