Azulia,GRT

Azulia,GRT

Chennai food guide has really come a long way. What started off in 2004 as an orkut community grew slowly and when i joined in 2006, we used to have meetings in small places which offered us discounts. Casa picola used to be a regular meeting place for the CFG meets. Today, the likes of Tuscana and now Azulia from GRT call us over to test their foods. CFG has also played a huge role in the growth of my blog to where it is today. When we met today at the invitation of Azulia, Ali, Nishant and myself, the only old members from the original community were reminding ourselves of our old days in cfg and how we now have so many new people on board writing reviews and promoting the food blogs. Azulia is one of my favorite eat outs in chennai. They used to have a lebanese chef and now they have a Turkish chef and authenticity is not compromised on and the tweaks are very minimal. They are careful about the choice of ingredients and source them from abroad. Chef Aetham guided us t

Hard Rock Cafe, Bangalore

Hard Rock Cafe, Bangalore

This time when I went to bangalore, I prayed to god to not miss hard rock cafe. I have been wanting to eat here and the last few visits to bangalore did not give me a chance to do so. My prayers were answered when my bro in law decided to take me there for dinner. I loved the ambiance straight away. There is a noisy part of the restaurant and a quieter part and both are full of flavor, superbly done. I was warned that the portions are huge here, typical of American sizes and so we went straight to the main course. We got ourselves one beef burger with caramelized onions and one jerk chicken steak. We chatted away with the the order of a berry mocktail, the name of which I forgot. The drink was super and the next few minutes were nirvana for me. Finally a super burger and unfortunately it was outside of chennai. It was huge, juicy, tasty and well done. The Jamaican jerk chicken steak was very nice but not something you have to travel to bangalore to get, but the burger certai

Kumarakom

Kumarakom

Continuing on my Kerala food journey in thrissur and Cochin where I had to travel for work, the wife and me decided to test Mallu cuisine in Chennai. And what better way than to compare the two, when I just landed back home. So we headed to Kumarakom on Valluvar kottam high road and settled in pretty late. The waiter came for our order and made it clear that kitchen was closing soon and we had to place order at this point for our whole meal including desserts. We obliged and ordered two plain appams, two egg appams and a gravy. "Saru, each person naalu appam kalichka koodum. Rendu seri illa" he said. So we increased the plain appams to six and ordered a puttu to go with it. "puttuku kadala curry best gom- bination" he declared and ordered it on our behalf. We just smiled to ourselves, got one karimeen polichadhu and waited for our order. The meal was pleasant. The appams were perfect, the egg appams were very nice, the karimeen polichadhu with its banana

Corner House, Bangalore

Corner House, Bangalore

I have shuttling between Bangalore and Chennai a little too much for my liking. But on the upside, I had the chance to sample some great food at Bangalore. So while a bangalore foodie is way too far off for now, I guess if you are one of those traveling to Bangalore, Corner House is a must visit. I am not sure about other stuff, but Death by Chocolate is something that you must try. It has some chocolate cake, some brownie, chocolate sauce, more chocolate sauce and I think it also has Willi Wonka chocolate factory inside it topped with generous amounts of nuts. It is one hell of a dessert and is aptly named. So if you step by in Bangalore......... Not very clear about the anatomy of bangalore, but I had it twice, one on MG road and once at Marathali. I was told that they have quite a few branches in Bangalore

Jaawaid's Kebabs and Kurries

Jaawaid's Kebabs and Kurries

We (two of us) were scouting around for a place to eat last Friday night and as we were driving down Wallace gardens, we spotted a place calling itself Jaawaids kebabs and kurries. We walked into an empty restaurant and were told that they had just opened up last week and they specialize in kebabs from north India, especially Kashmir. So we went in an made small talk with the promoters of the place and the chef and we were suggested a platter like thing called some wazi something, which apparently has kebabs, two curries, a starter and a dessert and is fit for four people. We were told that a half platter will be served for us. We decided to try it out and a platter being a good way to try out a place's variety, we went with it. The starter that came out was exquisite. I think it had cheese on it, but the chef would not give away even a whiff of his recipe and for good reason, the kebab was super. Then we saw the platter and it was by no means for two people. When a co
