Paprika Brunch - Courtyard Marriot

Paprika Brunch - Courtyard Marriot

I have been meaning to try out the Brunch at Paprika for quite sometime now, and I finally did so yesterday! At the outset, I still wonder why it is called 'Brunch'. It starts at 12 noon and ends at 4 pm, so it is definitely not 'brunch', but I guess it gives them the 'oommph' factor for their boring lunch buffet to be called 'Sunday Brunch'!!! The spread I must say is impressive! It starts off with Tender Coconut in street style, complete with the 'Aruva' to cut it and served not in a glass but in the coconut itself! You see a live pasta counter, a live Indian chat counter, a live dosa counter and the dessert counter even as you enter. As you move to the end of the restaurant, you see a live laksha counter, a live biriyani counter, a live pizza counter, a live grill counter and a live salad counter! Phew! Quite a few live counters and I think this is the maximum number of live counters that I have seen  in a lunch buffet....sorry brunch!!! Apa

Crepeire

Crepeire

Right at the entrance of Globus store, a small pink stall catches your attention with its name - Crepe. Now I have not had the chance to have a crepe, especially in a little stall, anywhere in Chennai so this came as a welcome surprise, at least concept wise. We decide to take the plunge and after a couple of frankies from the next stall, we headed here and ordered two crepes and a drink. The first one, La Nutella was amazing. First of all the crepe by itself was perfect. The well trained chap pours the batter on the hot tawa and skillfully uses a stick to spread it and create the perfect circle, once its all done, he smears the filling and folds it to give you, among the finest road side crepes outside of France (Ok, not exactly, but you get the point). The second crepe, the sugar sprinklers, was average, though I found out later that it was on the menu (and priced at Rs 25) only to attract people to the concept, which is fair. The Sugar Sprinkler was too dry for my liking and in t

Petawrap

Petawrap

Armed with a unique name, passion for food and with some good recipes, Petawrap set up shop in Chennai with an auto shaped kiosk and some creative dresses. I did their food tasting quite sometime back, but this is the first time I actually got to eat the product out of the kiosk! And I was surprised that they almost maintained their quality and taste in most of the dishes! If you see an auto stationed in some petrol bunk with food being served inside, don't be surprised, cos you might have actually spotted Petawrap! All their staff have Rahman's Petawrap song as their called tunes, they tried to make their waiters dressed up as autowalas in Super Star style but it seemed to have not caught on! But the unique kiosk shape with a nice name catches people's attention! We were three of us and so we got to taste all 6 of their wraps! The first one I had was Chicken Chettinad - mildly spicy, decent chettinad flavor, though the spices could do with some tweaking and overall a d

A small new coffeeshop/restaurant/wanna be restaurant has opened shop in R A Puram, Chennai. Located on the front end of a furniture store, it has a beautiful setting outside, with a tiny roofed store which houses cakes, lasagnas and pastas, which are then heated/made fresh somewhere else and served with a smile to you!!!! Yeah, I am just not able to describe this place any better! It is essentially a small outlet with a small but elegant outdoor seating area attempting to serve good food, but ends up serving average ones. On the recommendation of a friend, we hit this place and ordered a portion of Chicken Lasagna, Pasta and Iced tea. The lasagna was very average while the pasta was alright. The iced tea was straight out of Nestle Iced Tea! The only good thing about the place is the outdoor seating area facing the road and its elegance. The friend defended his decision to send us here saying that the owner needs to be there as he is the one who whips up tasty dishes, but the owne

Bee's Kopitiam

Bee's Kopitiam

Bee's Kopitiam, which literally means Bee's Coffee House, brings authentic South East Asian cuisine to India and has now open shop at the Express Avenue mall, food court! Being run by Malaysians, the authenticity is as close to eating in Malaysia as is possible. While Malaysian food (really, south east Asian food as a whole and very difficult to point it out country wise), may not be every one's cup of tea, I loved and still love Malaysian food during my stay there as well as occasional indulgences!!! Typically, a large part of these cuisines are based out prawn or fish sauce and therefore not liked by everyone, but some dishes do not use them at all and can be very tasty! The murktabak and the satay are examples! While the veg murktabak is an Indian innovation (I think) and is not exactly tasty, the chicken and the mutton murktabak are brilliant here! With the right amount of stuffing, these do justice to the price especially the food court prices! Both the chicken and

The Willi-Vipin duo is back with a new restaurant this time on the ever bustling KNK Road in Nungambakkam. With Tuscana's Italian fare being extremely successful, the duo are out to confront the Greek now!!! I was honored to have been there for their trials to get a taste of what to expect from them! I have never been to Greece so my Greek food expertise is limited to Las Vegas, stand alone Greek fare in some parts of the US, one Greek restaurant in Europe and some Mediterranean fare in US, Europe and India so my take on authenticity is limited to these factors! I love good food and am willing to give authenticity a miss as long as they don't call Masala Dosa, Greek!!!! Trial is not a good place to judge the quantity, price and service and so I will stay away from these things and stick only to the food in this review  unlike all my takes on other restaurants! As we entered the place, we could not help but notice the 'class' factor. The restaurant has extremely good
